Lightroom: Library text filter is not finding images by file name

Hi, I'm currently using LR4.4 on my mac (OS X) and have been a LR user for about two years now. I've never had trouble with the filters until today. I frequently search for images using the text filter and a file name or string of file names. Suddenly today for the first time I cannot find images by doing a text search on the file name. The text filter is set to "Search Any Field" and "Contains" and I've typed in the file name "IMG_8155". I've double checked for a typo and that I'm not searching in a wrong folder, and to be sure, I've gone to my top folder which contains all 18061 images to do the search. I've tried several alternative filter combinations with no success. I've restarted my computer and optimised my catalog with no change. Has anyone else seen this issue?

I can't say why or if behavior of any-field searching has changed, but try searching 'Filename' instead of "any field" - better?

Anyone knows anything about this? My Libraries filter has been acting up for months and I am so frustrated that I haven't been able to fix it yet!!! One day a week ago the issue resolved itself completely, out of the blue, and then a few days later went back to acting up.
So if I want to search for 30 filenames, all of them different, I used to be able to do this, but now Lightroom doesn't do it. If I search 30 filenames as "text - contains" lightroom just shows me ALL the photos not the 30. if I change to "text-contains all", it says "no photos match the filter" even thought PHOTOS DO MATCH THE FILTER!!
I need to search for full filenames because there might be two files I am looking for that both end in number 4, for instance, but the text in the filname is different.
As I said I used to be able to do this no problem and it all went upside down one day. I re installed lightroom, I rebooted my computer, I updated the catalog, I have sacrificed a lamb to Zeus, and nothing works. Please help me. I am tired.

It's not clear precisely what you're doing, but to search for multiple filenames using the Library Filter bar, use this criterion:

Filename contains list of filenames, separated by spaces

For example:

Filename contains IMG_626.JPG IMG_627.JPG

Note that the list of filenames must be separated by spaces. If you try to copy and paste a list from a document in which the filenames are listed one per line, it won't work. Also note that your filenames themselves can't contain spaces.

If this doesn't work for you, please do Help > System Info and report the exact version of LR you're running and which version of Windows or Mac. Also, post a full-resolution screen shot showing the full LR window.

In general, LR is really bad at search for things with spaces -- big design oversight.

To search for a large list of filenames containing spaces, you could use the Extended Search plugin: http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-good...

Well apparently I did have spaces in my renaming import preset and didn't realize it :(. I removed the spaces in the file name by renaming (easy), then removed the spaces from the list of filenames using the replace feature in word (also easy), and FINALLY when I pasted the file names in the search box ONLY those files were selected. Thank you all so much. I had given up hope on this but from this point forward it will make album design much easier.
