Layers missing when opening cs6 file in cc

I'm working with a designer using cs6. When I open his file in cc, many of the layers have been flattened into a single uneditable layer. Have tried many things and can't seem to figure out the issue. Possible it's his save settings?

Does the same file open with layers in CS6, or was it saved without layers?

We haven't seen any cases where Photoshop CC fails to open layered documents that Photoshop CS6 would.

Hi Chris, the same file opens without layers in CS6. But only for two folders. Other folders maintained their original layers.

That sounds like the files were just saved without any layer data.

Possible to not save layer data for only certain groups in a file? The file contains many groups that seem to have maintained all layer data. Only 2 groups lost the layer data.

If you aren't getting an error message when opening the file, then most likely that is what the user saved. You can email me the file (ccox at adobe dot com) to examine, but I may not get to it until after the holidays.

Just sent over the file and some comparison screenshots of the layers from his file and mine. I really appreciate your help with this. I've had 3 people open my file and not see the layers. He's had multiple people open the file and he says they can see the layers. I'm baffled.

No, it is not possible to save without certain layer groups. Either you save all layers (including the groups), or no layers.
