The existing visual layout for palettes are layers that are layered one on top another. I would like to see columns introduced, keeping the layered layers format but with added feature of beingable to split the layers palette into columns from top to bottom, next column back to top to bottom and so on. I use multiple screens, landscape soobviously having my palettes on one screen this could be very useful.

May not be as useful in a single screenenvironment as space is like real estate.  I am sure that this idea is not new or original however I would still like to see it happen.

I think that elements can already do what you want. Each tab layers, history, etc., can be separated from the group and allowed to float. You can resize them and move them where you want. I am assuming you are using Elements. That is the software that I am referencing.

Elements is a simplified version targeted at low end users including photographers etc?.  I do agree that this software does allow for more ease of use in terms of layers but would still like to see more of a constructive approach and solution to layers in PSD.  Thanks for your comment, Elements certainly has its merits and I often use it for such.  Cheers
