Photoshop: Layer Duplication issue

When I'm trying to duplicate a layer in Photoshop 2020 using the option and command button  it bugs out and stops placing additional layers. Say I'm duplicating a flower to fill a pattern, it will allow me to place it 2 or 3 times and then when I try to place another it allows me to see where I'm placing it and then it disappears and doesn't allow me to duplicate anything until i completely switch tools , has anyone had this issue?
Update - Also seems to be an issue if I copy and paste the item, it keeps flicking back to where it was pasted when I try to move it...

Hi Paulina, I'm not quite following your steps. When you say "I'm trying to duplicate a layer in Photoshop 2020 using the option and command button" do you mean Option and Command keys? in conjunction with a command or button or another key? Or something different?

I'm using the shortcut to duplicate layer , the option key and the command key (command key being used that I dont have to hover my mouse exactly over where the "flower" is) . I click and hold both option and command keys and use my mouse to drag the layer which makes a duplicate and I can place it where I want at the same time. As soon as I let go of the mouse key to place the layer it disappears.

I tried instead to copy and paste the layer and then drag it to move it but as soon as I let go of mouse key it flicks back to its original location.

Did that make more sense ? Sorry it's hard to explain ! I've worked with photoshop a long time and only started having this issue in the last few weeks.

In cases where we've seen this sort of thing it's been a conflict with other software/utilities: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/cant-drag-layers.html

Does the same problem happen with a mouse or a trackpad?

Do you have any other utilities or start-up items installed on the system? https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/basic-troubleshooting.html#safemode

Have you tried unchecking the Auto-Select option in the Move Tool options bar and the only hold option and drag?
