Photoshop CC 2015.5.1: Update reset all my actions

I opened Photoshop today as I do every morning to find an updated version that has hidden all my default panels, but more importantly has reset all the actions I had saved to the default set, with no apparent way to recover them. Some of my action sets were saved externally, but definitely not all of them. This has never happened to me in a Photoshop update (using since CS4).

If you don't explicitly save your actions, they are stored with the general preferences. Preferences and presets should be automatically migrated to the new version. If you reset your preferences after the migration, that could explain why they disappeared.

You could see if your preferences are still on disk from the prior version (CC 2015 or 2014 or whatever version you updated from) and try and copy (make a copy) and replace the current versions preferences with the prior ones. https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/preference-file-names-locations-photoshop1.html

Or conversely, reinstall the prior version, and save out the actions explicitly and then import them in the new version. https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/download-install-app.html#Installpreviousversionsofapps
