Last upgrade to Lightroom mobile for iPad turned on iCloud storage. Lightroom does not show up in the settings app fo me to turn it off. Same thing happened with the iPhone app but I was able to turn it off. I can no longer backup iPad because there is no enough space.

That is not an Adobe / Lightroom issue, but an Apple issue.

Exactly. No longer have control over the iPad backup. Mine auto backs up my LR library, which is large, which prevents a backup in the field without a very high speed Internet and buying additional iCloud storage. This situation began with the latest LR update. It’s broken. Rats. Has big negative implications for my field workflow.

Strange! I’ve checked and I have nothing backed up from LR.

Are you using LR with Classic our the « new » LR Desktop?

I’d suggest to contac Apple support, the’re great

Yes, there is a very cleverly hidden switch to control the backup. Just took me a while to find it.

Can you give me a hint? I’ve been looking in the settings for ages. I wonder if the pictures are backed up through iCloud or not...

Sure, here goes. In settings at the top menu 1. Select Apple ID 2. Select iCloud 3. Select Manage Storage 4. Select Select Backups 5. Select your device. 6. Under choose data to backup find Lightroom (you may have to select show all apps if you don’t see Lightroom). 7. Toggle the switch opposite Lightroom to on or off as desired. Good Luck!

Thanks!
Wow! It’s one level deeper than what I’d expect.
However, I don’t think it backs ups all the data: I have about 15 Go of pictures and it says only 2,5 Go of backup.
I’m not 100% sure about the details, but I would assume the storage of actual up to the software?

Wonder if it’s backing up smart previews, if so that would be about right. Generally, if you’re loading full-size photos (I shoot RAW) into lightroom mobile the full size photo uploads into Adobe and the smart preview is retained. The full size photo may still be in cache but I doubt that would be backed up.

Indeed. I shoot raw too but I’m syncing it with Classic. So the full res are kept on my iPad until I’m home. Using iCloud to back up my device would be a great alternative (safety net) to the 20 Go limit of LR.

Before the reps and champions shoot me down, I know there a 1 To option for LR but it’s a yearly subscription and I would only need it a couple of weeks during holidays. Buying a couple of Go of iCloud storage for the time seems fair to me. Not 12 months of LR storage at 24,19! (Even one month is overpriced!)

Interesting, I use classic too. Air drop the keepers to iPhone in the field for backup as I rarely have a data connection.

Never thought about it! The risk of loosing both is indeed smaller. But it requires a manual action, which brings unreliability...

Actually, not having. Connection solves the issue: no backup possible. (At least no cloud backup!)
