Any plans to resolve the lasso tool use-inducing crash of PS CC? It's been an issue for some time now.

I guess we'll need some more information to try to reproduce your problem.

What OS are you using? Is the OS up to date? What version of Photoshop? Is Phothsop up to date? Are you using a Wacom tablet? Are the tablet drivers up to date? Which lasso tool exactly are you using and how, that makes Photoshop crash? Have you tried re-installing Photshop? Have you tried resetting your preferences?

I tried the lasso tool in any combination possible and didn't got a crash. I am on Windows 10, latest Photoshop and tried mouse and Wacom tablet.

A crash with the Lasso tool is news to us.  This is a VERY commonly used tool, so I would expect to hear lots of complaints if there was an easy-repro bug.  How long have you had this problem?  Does it happen all the time?  I cannot reproduce this issue on either Win or Mac.  The info that Alex suggests is a great place to start as is the crash log that Jeff asked about.

Thanks,
David

I also has a problem with Lasso Tool (latest CC2017, Windows 10) at work. Sometimes using it hangs Photoshop. PS doesn't crash, so there's no log, but it becomes unresponsive. This happens 2-4 times a day and I can't seem to figure out the exact way to reproduce it >:(

Hi David, thanks for your reply.
For the apps, here're the apps I have constantly turned on:
iTunes, Creative Cloud, Sublime Text 3, Slack, Monosnap (for making screenshots), Teamviewver, Google Hangouts, Mail, Chrome, latest Photoshop CC2017 and Animate CC2017. Additionally, I have AHK (AutoHotKey, a tool for scripting) and Ditto (clipboard manager) running. I come from Mac so I also remapped Alt, Winkey and Ctrl to resemble Mac layout with KeyTweak.
This happens on all files, previously saved and new, large and small (mostly I work on 1024x1024 images with 10-30 layers). Considering the settings, I have GTX1060 turned ON in preferences, Cache settings is on Default, Photoshop uses 10gb of 16gb RAM. Two displays, main is Wacom Cintiq 22HD graphic tablet with latest drivers.
I constantly use lasso with Alt-key (when it switches to polygonal lasso while holding Alt-key and if you mouse-click-and-hold, it uses a regular lasso). Several times PS froze when I used lasso while trying to scroll documente (like when you zoomed in and to paint the selection further you take mouse cursor to document edge and it scrolls automatically), several times it hanged when the lasso line was intersecting with a visible panel (like Info Panel or custom MagicPicker color wheel), several times it hanged just while painting the selection.
I paint lasso selections a _lot_, basically several times a minute sometimes. Mostly they aren't complicated: I use 1-3 combined lasso selections to lock a plane and further paint on it (GIF https://www.dropbox.com/s/gohxwcmaxaxw1n5/selections.gif?dl=0 ).
A day before yesterday PS froze 4 times, but yesterday it didn't at all :/
Also I have Overscroll turned ON and a lot of custom extensions: I know the first thing you recommend is to get rid of them, but they're crucial for my pipeline, and because these freezes aren't obvious, I can't spend several days without them

Howdy Sergey,

First, thank you so much for the thoughtful and detailed summary.  That's super helpful!

Next, I see a couple of things that are kinda red flags, based on other users' feedback.  Apps that do screenshots, scripting, and keyboard layouts can be dicey.   Not trying to throw anyone under the bus, but the truth is, those kinds of apps are often poorly tested and have unexpected side effects.  Could you try without any of them running?

Similarly, and this based only on forum posts, when I see Wacom these days, my first thought is "physically disconnect and uninstall immediately" cuz many, many times, the tablet is a major contributor to the problem.  That might not be the case here at all, but it wouldn't hurt to remove it as an unknown variable.

Finally, custom extensions, as you mentioned, are also often major sources of issues.  You could try for a day or two without them and see if the problem resolves itself?

In all cases, there's no OBVIOUS smoking gun, but taking that analogy further, the air sure smells like gun powder from multiple sources!

Hope that helps,
Thanks,
David

Thanks David,
The first thing I did on Monday was I turned overscroll Off (because of this scroll-with-lasso-freeze thing I had). And... no freezes whatsoever. Don't know if it's this option to blame, I'll continue to observe. Reinstalling the Wacom drivers and getting rid of screenshot app would be the next thing to do. The extensions I use were written by me so I hope :D it's not them to blame.
I'll update with my findings later this week.
Cheers,
Sergey

Funny that the bug hasn't been found or known about it was around already 2011 - and yet still here we are at 2018 and it still persist in Photoshop CC
