When cropping in Camera RAW, dragging the crop box is very slow and laggy, but it wasn't always this way. It used to be fast and responsive. I've tried clearing PS preferences, clearing Camera RAW cache, increasing Camera RAW cache, and none of this fixes the problem.

MBP 2.4 GHZ C2D

8GB RAM

Mac OS X 10.6.8

Photoshop CS5 12.0.4 w/ Camera RAW 6.4.1

Canon 1D Mark III, 10.1 MP RAW

Josh,

Do you have any external drives mounted on your system?

Negative. It's not REALLY bad, but I tend to edit 300-400 RAW files in an hour, and with this slower cropping it just can't happen.

Here's an example of the problem. It's not too bad in this video, but it is usually worse:

When you say it didn't use to be slow for you, was this in CS5 or in a previous version (CS4 or CS3)?

No, that's the funny thing. I've only ever had CS5 on this computer (which I bought in August of last year) and it used to run fine. When I first put CS5 on this mac, the sliders is PS were really laggy (similar to the crop problem), but after updating they were much better.

Yeah, the sliders being slow was fallout from the 64-bit/Cocoa conversion that we fixed in an update. I'm at a loss as to what would cause the crop drawing to be slow. I don't think I an uninstall/reinstall would necessarily help. It would be interesting to try it on a clean system if you have access to second drive to experiment with. There may be external considerations at play.

Well when Lion comes out I'll probably put a bigger hard drive in the computer and do a fresh install...so we'll see what happens. Thanks for your help.

I suppose a fix is to uninstall and reinstall CS5...but I have so many scripts/actions etc. installed right now that it'd be a pain right now during the busy season
