Photoshop CC 2015: Lag moving layers on the canvas and panning around the canvas

Laggy canvas movement and layer movement on the mac, this problem happened on windows cc2015 when it came out with artboards but adobe fixed it. This has been going on with the mac since at least CS6 but then the same problem popped up on cc2015 when it was first released. Can adobe please address this once and for all because it makes working with photoshop on the mac very choppy

Most people are not seeing such problems.

But we have seen delays caused by third party plugins and extension panels, corrupt fonts or corrupt OS font caches, and interference from external applications and utilities.

maybe you're working on images too large for your video card to handle?

no this happens when just opening a brand new document with only a square on the canvas. chris do you have a video of how it looks on your screen when you use photoshop while just opening it up and placing one image on the screen? it can't be third party plugins, corrupt fonts, OS font caches or external applications because ive completely wiped this hard drive before, installed a new copy of osx mavericks and yosemite, only installed photoshop and the same problem happened. im using a 15 inch rMBP 2.7ghz i7 16gb ram and intel iris 1532mb card. i dont see how any of those things could be the cause when it happens on a brand new installation.

do you know what im talking about with what happened on windows when cc2015 came out? it had the same lag problem on the canvas and adobe fixed it, so i dont understand why adobe doesn't think this isn't caused by a problem with the program.

why don't you record what's going on with your images so that we can see what you're talking about? If this problem was widespread, everyone would be up in arms. I use PS for 40-60 hours/week, working on images which range from 1-20GB's, using a 6 year old macPro and there are no problems with lag.

yeah ive heard the older macs dont have this problem, possibly because of different hardware or whatever. my old PC runs photoshop better than this brand new mac does, it has to be something with the software. this is what it looks like:

sometimes its little choppy movements and then theres times where its big like shown in the video

is there anything i can provide you that could help diagnose whats going on with it? ive literally tried everything and dont know why my system isn't responding like it others. do you have a 15inch macbook pro with intel iris that you could test on?

I do not have that particular model, so we'll have to see if someone in QE can reproduce what you are seeing (but so far, we haven't seen it behave like that).

that would be cool if you could help with that, maybe its something with the way intel cards interact with photoshop on the mac, can't be an entire intel driver issue because i dont get graphics lag in any other program besides photoshop, maybe the person in QE can reproduce the problem with an intel iris card

The only lag/choppiness known was the Ruler drawing problem - and that was fixed for both platforms in the 2015.0.1 update.

I'll have to see if I can get someone to work directly with you to determine what is happening on your system.

chris here is a video that Adobe published to show the new artboards feature, you can see this video showing the same problems Im having with lagging movement when panning around and moving layers around. Its sprinkled throughout the video but I also found a spot around 3:45 that shows the same problem Ive been having so its not just me.

The choppiness in that video was due to the video recording software, plus the fact that he was using a document with hundreds of layers, plus delays while updating dozens of smart objects.

some other things to note, if i go to full screen with toolbars mode then the panning lagginess stops. it becomes smooth like it should be. if i put the view back to standard mode the choppiness comes back. moving layer choppiness happens in all views. flick panning is smooth and holding space far, flicking the pan and when you let go of the mouse it smoothly pans across but if you hold the mouse click down it is laggy still. animated zoom is smooth.

That almost sounds like you have a third party extension panel causing problems.

If you disable Smart Guides (View>Show>Smart Guides...) does it pan smoother?
If you go to Preferences>Plug-Ins... and uncheck "Allow Extensions to connect to the internet" and "Load Extension Panels" then restart Photoshop, does it pan smoother?

already had smart guides off, disabled the extension panels and unchecked allow to connect to internet, no change

I'm not seeing any performance differences between any versions of Photoshop I have installed on MBP.

Do you still have CS5 or the version of Photoshop you're comparing CC 2015 to that's performing better on your system?

We still haven't seen such a problem, and don't know what is on your system to cause such a problem.

ive given a lot of clues here, scrollbars/flick panning/animated zoom all work fine. its moving content around with the move tool or panning with the hand tool is when you see this problem. using the rotate view tool also works fine. this happens with these 2 tools on intel cards. ive tested it on three different computers and they all had the same problem. i dont understand how you can't replicate this and you keep saying you've never seen this before when ive seen other posts talking about performance issues with photoshop many times. i dont know how many more clues i can give to this but really need it fixed.
