Lightroom: Keywording Issues

Keywording Issues: with Keyword tag set to 'Enter Keywords' sometimes implied hierachy is displayed using '>' separator. I believe that this should only be displayed when using 'Keywords & Containing Keywords'. The 'Will Export' option is fine.

When switching between Keywording & Keyword list panels often the keywording box displays a white border and editing is then unavailable - a restart is required to fix this problem. Windows 7, Core i5, 4 GB Ram. Thanks.

LR displays the parent keyword in the keywording pane when there is more than one keyword with the same name. For example, if you have keywords Smiths > John and Ellises > John, and the photo contains the keyword Smiths > John, the keywording pane will show "John > Smiths", making it clear which of the two keywords are intended.

This is independent of the export options you've selected. The keywords Smiths > John and Ellises > John are two separate keywords, not one keyword. If later on you decide you do want to export containing keywords, it is important to be able to distinguish the two keywords. If LR didn't display the parent keyword in the keywording pane, a user might have accidentally selected the wrong "John" and wouldn't know.

Thank you for the explanation I see how displaying the hierachy for duplicate keywords makes perfect sense.

Just need to work out what causes the white border and locking of the keyword entry box?

I vaguely recall other postings about those symptoms, either in this forum or at the Adobe LR user forum:

I don't remember if there was a resolution -- perhaps someone else will.

Since the forum search is broken, the only practical way to search the latter is to use Google, e.g. with a query like:

Thanks I have found another reference earlier to the problem but unfortunately no resolution - http://forums.adobe.com/message/3631933. I'll keep trying and let you know if I manage to find one.
