So I have uninstalled and reinstalled, I still have the same issue. The organiser works but soon as I go to edit it has an unexpected error and closes. Windows log file shows this happening Faulting application PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe, version 9.0.3.0, time stamp 0x4d906921, faulting module PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe, version 9.0.3.0, time stamp 0x4d906921, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00e0c1f4, process id 0xe60, application start time 0x01cc8bceac612109

I have looked at all the info and tried everything but nothing is fixing it.

If you purchased yesterday, why didn't you get Photoshop Elements 10 (our current version)?

Unfortunately, the error info you've posted isn't enough to go on.

What do you see with Elements when it is launching?

Do you see the Splash Screen (with credits and a progress of what is loading)? If you see the Splash Screen, what is the last thing that is listed as loading before the crash?

Does the program appear before the crash? Do you see the User Interface (Menu, Panels, work area, etc) appear?

Does the crash occur before either Splash Screen or UI?

What, exactly, have you tried to resolve this issue beyond uninstalling and reinstalling? Have you tried anything here?: Troubleshoot launch issues, problems - http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/832/cpsid_83...

Brett,

The reason I purchased PSE9 is because that is what the retail outlet was selling, they were not selling PSE10. Had I known this I would not have purchased it.

OK, so when I launch elements I get the splash screen. I can load the organiser and it seems to work fine but when I click on edit i usually get the response that the program has crashed. After all the attempts to resolve the issue now I get nothing. It is not giving me error reports at all now. I have followed the link you gave me and followed all of the suggestions that make any sense to me but still nothing.

Out of desperation, I have loaded it onto my laptop and it is working OK on that computer.

I was having this sme issue with PSE5 on my desktop if that is any help. I thought the upgade might fix it. How wrong was I?

Cheers

Sounds like there is some sort of conflict on that system that's not on the other system. Can you think of anything that's different? (Virus software, utilities, printer drivers, video card drivers, etc)

I love that line "followed all of the suggestions that make any sense to me". Can you be more specific? Which ones did you do? Why did you skip the others? All of the steps in that document make sense at one level or another.

6. Delete all Adobefnt*.lst files
Search for and delete all copies of the AdobeFnt*.lst file that you find on the hard disk:

1.In the Finder, choose File > Find (Command + F).
2.Type Adobefnt*.lst, select the system drive, and then click the Search icon.
3.Click within the search results. Choose Edit > Select All, and then drag the selected files to the Trash.
4.Choose Finder > Empty Trash.
5.Restart the application.
If an Adobefnt*.lst file becomes damaged, it can cause the application to crash, freeze, or quit when you try to start it. Adobefnt.lst files (for example, Adobefnt10.list for InDesign) are font cache files that Adobe applications use to quickly gather and store information about available fonts. If you delete or rename an Adobefnt.lst file, the application will re-create it the next time you start the application.

This made no sense to me..

The font list is a cache of available fonts. At each launch the file is read to generate the list of fonts that the Type tool can use. Sometimes this file becomes corrupted. If it is corrupted, Editor will not be able to launch. When you delete it, at next launch your system fonts are read and a new font list is created.

This would be a step you could skip if the Organizer was not launching, maybe. But it makes perfect sense in this case.

Sorry, these instructions are for Mac (I'll update the doc for Windows as well). But the same applies to Windows. For step 1, just open up a search from the Start menu. Then follow the rest of the instructions the same. (Trash=Recycle Bin, emptying the Recycle Bin is not required, that is a quirk of the Mac OS)

Jeffrey,

I have put in a request, will see what happens.

So I did a full and fresh install of windows and at one stage PSE9 was working. Here is a list of programs installed after that time.

MYOB Accountright Basics (is installed on my laptop as well)
Pinnacle Studio 15 ultimate (not on my laptop)
Logitech g27 (not on my laptop)
iRacing (is on laptop)
Nitro PDF Reader 2 (is installed on my laptop)
Trading Paints Downloader (not on my laptop)
Microsoft Office Outlook connector (not on my laptop)
Blackberry Desktop Software (Not on my laptop)
Windows Live Essentials (is on my laptop)
Realtek Audio Drivers

I installed Coral Paintshop pro 12 Ultimate after I was having issues with pse9

Adobe Reader (is on my laptop)

So one of the above could be causing an issue.

Cheers
