Photoshop: Is there a side by side preview?

In Photoshop can I preview different filters/ effects on the same psd side by side? I'm thinking of something similar to the filter galleries that are typically swipe-able on a mobile phone.

I'd like to visually inspect the changes to a file other than toggling layer comps or history states. I know I can export and jpgs of these save points but I feel there must be a better workflow. Is there a native option or a plugin that anyone can recommend?

Howdy Jimmy,

Almost all of the filters have a Preview option, which you can toggle on/off to see that the effect of the change will be.

David,

I'm using filters as an example, but what I mean is a little more complex. Let me explain a little more in detail so you understand.

In polishing architectural renderings, there are a lot of small tasks that I do: adding entourage, tweaking lighting effects, changing colors and textures. As a result in an hour of editing I can generate a dozens of rendering schemes. Currently, I'm using layer comps to flip through them before selecting few for print inspection.

I was wondering if there is a digital way to compare these layer comps or history states side by side so that I can quickly narrow down my options.

Thanks,
Jimmy

There is not currently such a side by side preview in Photoshop.

You may be able to script something that will create thumbnails of each layer comp (or history snapshots) and display them side by side.
