I recently reinstalled my lightroom without backing up my catalogue. I do, However have both the original .cr2 raw files and jpg edited files in my hardrive. As expected, when i opened lightroom, the pictures were again being shown in their raw source file, so I was wondering whether there is a way to retrieve that edit data again.

Re-installing Lightroom does not delete your Catalogs.
(In the same way that re-installing MS-Word does not delete your .DOCx document files)

You possibly started a 'new' catalog and imported your photos which is the reason they do not show the edits. Edits are all stored in a Catalog.

Either go to the Lightroom menu : File >Open Recent  and select from any Catalogs that Lightroom finds,
Or in the OS search of computer files that have the file-type suffix of .LRCAT  These are catalogs.- double click on a xxxxx.LRCAT file to 'open' it with Lightroom.

And BACKUP your catalogs to a separate physical hard-drive! No excuses!

Recovering editing from metadata (.XMP sidecars) is only possible if you actually 'Saved' the metadata in Lightroom (manually or automatically). And it does not restore all data that was in a Catalog.

Hi Robert,

I after my previous session, windows crashed and lightroom was being slow so i reinstalled it. After re-installing, the catalogue 'upgraded' from my previous catalogue and was loaded. Here All my other edit history is here, but not the last few from my last session. Will loading the previous catalogue still get the edit history for the ones from my previous session?
