iPhone jpegs missing from catalog (LR confused by Live Photos)

The current iPhone models have the option of capturing a 3 second video along with each JPG.  This video has the same base filename as the JPG but with a MOV extension.  These are called Live Photos and I use them because they're fun.  I also import these into LR because I want all of my images, regardless of their source, to be in one repository.

The problem: Lightroom is now considering the actual JPG photos to be sidecars of the MOVs that accompany them, as if somehow the MOV was a raw file (it isn't).
So the JPGs are removed from the catalog when "Treat JPG files next to RAW files as separate photos" is UNchecked and they are unable to be re-added or synchronized.
Checking the above option in Preferences brings back my iPhone JPGs, but also brings in about 4000 Fuji JPG sidecars that I'd prefer not to see in my catalog (deleting them is not an option).
