PHOTOSHOP - Interpolate bit depth without aliasing

Wouldn't it be great if we could switch from 8 bit to 16 bit while Photoshop interpolates new color values, in stead of keeping the exact 8 bit information (resulting in aliasing of the color, causing banding). In this way we could create (pseudo) HDRI from any image.

Would be nice if we could choose the interpolation type for color depth, just like we do when changing Image Size with Resampling?
