Intermittent Wacom Pressure Sensitivity Loss

When I use my Wacom Cintiq pen in Photoshop 5, I occasionally get the intermittent pressure sensitivity loss that has been reported by other users in the past. This issue does not occur when I test the pen in Photoshop 3! It is very rare, but it does happen at least once every 30 or 40 strokes.

Things I have tried:
I have updated the drivers for the Cintiq, as well as tested older driver versions.
I have also disabled tablet pc input services within windows.
Increasing the performance options within photoshop 5.
Restoring the older preference/settings from the Cintiq's previous drivers into the latest driver version.

Because the problem doesn't happen in Photoshop 3 I wonder if this is something I need to fix within Photoshop...any ideas?

~~~~~Update 1/13/12~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've contacted Wacom, and so far their advice hasn't helped. They wanted to make sure that I had the latest driver, and that my anti-virus software was turned off during the install, but it didn't seem to matter. After I thoroughly tried to follow their advice for each driver I sent them screenshots of each driver causing the same issue to the pen pressure...and they sent me a link to a site about setting the brush pressure settings (?).
Right now I'm using the oldest driver for the Cintiq, and I've just re installed Photoshop...it seems to work better than the others, but it has still resulted in the same issue. The old driver definitely isn't ideal for other reasons, so I'd prefer to see a solution with a newer driver.
I've read that someone had luck re installing Photoshop and not adding the updates, meaning that the Adobe Photoshop updates are causing this. However another user said that they still had the issue regardless, so I don't know.
