Elements 9: Content and effects panels are empty (Mac OS X 10.7 Lion)

There is nothing in the content or effects panels. (of course, I have them checked in Windows menu. I am using a MacBook Pro with Lion. I also have PSE 10 installed and it does have the panels with contents in them.

There are a couple possible causes for this issue. First, if you previously had Photoshop Elements 6 on this computer and uninstalled it after installing Photoshop Elements 9, the removal of PSE6 will remove critical files. This is discussed in this document:

Additionally, this issue may be tied to a corrupt database file that keeps track of the contents of these panels. If the above doesn't work, try recreating this mediadatabase. Instructions can be found here:
