Improve the DNG format, increase performance with a flexible resolution

Hi, I would like to suggest a feature for the DNG Converter (the tool and LR). With the introduction of Cameras like the Nikon D800 RAW files will are very large and therefore slow down the work process. Canon adressed this with a smaller RAW format (I think it is called mRAW) but Nikon and other cam manufacturers didn't.
As a photographer it is nice to have a high resolution like the 36 MP from the Nikon D800 or 24 MP from many other cameras but most often it is not needed and at the end cost me a lot of time/money (storage, processing time). For me as a photographer (with a 100% raw workflow) it would be perfect to use the full power of 14 bit raw files and choose later on my computer the resolution needed for that raw file. So my idea is to offer an option to downsize the resolution when converting the files into the DNG format.
In this way I'm able to shoot in 14 bit, lossless RAW, transfer the files to my computer and create DNG's with a smaller resolution (and way smaller file size and faster processing time), integrated into LR it would be able to select the less important pictures and convert them into a DNG with a smaller MP size (e.g. the wedding reportage from 36 MP to 12 MP). The more important pictures could be stored with a higher MP (e.g. 24 MP).
For high volume shooters this would be a big advantage, saving storage and speed up the workflow. Also Canon users which have the mRaw option don't have to think when to switch between mRAW and full RAW, they can choose later on.
