Lightroom: PSD's are not showing up back in Lightroom 5 after they have been saved in PS CC

Apologies if this topic has been covered - I couldn't find a definitive answer so here goes.

Using Lightroom 5, if I then 'edit in Photoshop CC' and after that edit, save the file it will not appear back in Lightroom

If I then try and rename the PSD file (from PCC), save it to the desktop, and try and import it into LR manually, it is greyed out and I can not import.

I used to be able to simply close the edited file in Photoshop (first clicking save) and it would appear along the film strip in LR at the end. Meaning that I also had the PSD file in the LR catalogue also.

Using Photoshop CC, Lightroom 5 on an iMac - if this helps.

Many,many thanks in advance.

If it's grayed out in the Import panel that usually means it's already been imported.

If your LR thumbnail Sort Order is set to Added Order then the new PSD will be at the far right of the thumbnail bar because it was just added as you exited PS.

If your Sort Order is set to Filename order (or maybe Capture Date), then the new PSD will be next to your original document.

Firstly Steve - Thank you.

yes, that's what use to happen and I get that it is greyed out because it's already in the catalogue...however, I've just run a test again (with sort order set to Added Order), closed the file in PCC (saved) and it hasn't appeared in the film strip in LR. It must be something stupid that I am doing, but I just can't figure this out and it's costing me in time on my workflow.

Set your order to Filename order and test. Maybe start with a new image for your test.

And make sure you're not working out of a Smart Collection or other filtered view that would exclude the derivative.

Again, thank you Steve. Did exactly that and still no go. The edited image / PSD image doesn't appear back in LR.

Jim - Thank you. I checked the filters and they are set to Filters : Off.

On the most part, all I am doing is editing in PCC, maybe cleaning the image, cropping or adding text as a new layer, then closing the image and clicking SAVE when at the pop up...it does save, I just can't find it in LR.

Hello - I think I have spotted the problem and it's to do with having (stupidly) TWO main picture folders named the same (one is now a ghost folder) and to do with when I started using larger external hard drives to hold the image files.

Thank you all once again for your help and advice - I did learn something along the way!

In my case this problem was due to the image folders becoming 'read only' when I copied them to a bigger drive. Undoing the read only in the drives 'properties' allowed LR/CC to work normally again.

I am a new user of the CC and I have the same problem getting my images back into Lr after editing them in Ps. I have followed all the advice above, watched endless online tutorials, but still no luck. The images were originally exported from the new version of Photo, onto the desktop and then into Lr. This is driving me crazy. Thanks.

Same happens to me and I have to close Lightroom and then open it again at which point the image then appears.

I've been having the same problem for months and the only way I've found around it is: when opening Photoshop always open in default settings ( hold down ctrl/Alt/shift buttons together on start-up). No idea how or why this works but it works. When opening PHotoshop in default settings you will be asked do you want to skip loading third party plug-ins and its ok to say no and open with your plug-ins Hope this helps as it nearly drove me crazy till I figured it out!
