Hello All, I am using PSE 18 on a Win 10 machine.  I put all my pics into one folder that is onan external HD.  If I have pics on an SD card from taking some pictureswith my camera - I have been copying them to the above folder on my externalHD.

When I import via a batch mode, it RUNS ALL of my pictures in that one bigfolder that is on my external.  My concern is that if Iimport the pics directly from my SD card into PSE, and then remove the cardfrom my PC so that I can use it again in my camera is that I will have 'missingconnection' problems in PSE.  Hence my copying  pics to my ex HD and then doing a batchimport.

The batch import of 100 new pics from the SD card will takeSEVERAL hours because PSE will scan/import the WHOLE batch of pics from myexternal HD.  I just wantit to connect the new batch that I have copied from my SD card.  That should take less 5 minutes.

I must be misunderstanding some basic PSE import conceptshere . . . help please.  I don't want to have to wait several hours everytime I put 100 new pics into PSE.  Yet, I do not want a bunch of 'missingconnections' problems either.  What am Idoing wrong?  How can I fix this problem?

Thank you, Dean

Let's start with:
My concern is that if I import the pics directly from my SD card into PSE, and then remove the card from my PC so that I can use it again in my camera is that I will have 'missing connection' problems in PSE.

Don't worry, your SD card is considered as a 'removable drive'. That means that when you download from the camera or card reader (not 'from files and folders'), the first operation of the downloader is to copy the selected file to the destination (drive, folder) of your choice. You can change it at each import or simply define your default destination folder.

The batch import of 100 new pics from the SD card will take SEVERAL hours because PSE will scan/import the WHOLE batch of pics from my external HD.  I just want it to connect the new batch that I have copied from my SD card.  That should take less 5 minutes.

No, that should not be as long.
Even if you have chosen to store all your files in a single flat folder (not a good idea), scanning the whole folder should not take an hour even with a very big library (100 000 files?)
Don't run the default batch option which scans all your computer, select a folder. Anyway, the option to import from camera or card reader only scans your card. Importing from files and folders is made easier and faster when you create a date based folder structure (an useful option in your preferences).

Yes Dean, I just cut and paste the photos from my camera onto an external HD where I have my photos. Then I open PSE2018 Organiser and import these photos by selecting them from the folder on the hard drive. I then move the photos into a PSE album. It is very fast and seems to work well. Enjoy!
