Importing files is really slow, so slow as to be useless.

If you mean 6.3 I have, that's what I'm complaining about, it virtually grinds to a halt, my last import of 275 images took 20 minutes

Hi Laurence,

Sorry to hear that. Can you provide more details? Which OS and version? Where are the files you're importing? Are you importing via Add or Copy?

Thanks,
Becky

I'm using Windows 7 64bit version. the files were on a CF card through a USB3 card reader, they were being copied with a second copy to a RAID

2920MB/92s = 32MB/sec which is about 1/3 the normal speed of my USB3 drive. https://www.dropbox.com/s/ijlflrxj53t...

No, merely importing raw files to work on

See my comment about your USB 3 speed. You are seeing closer to USB 2 transfer speeds.

That may be, but my initial import of images into Lightroom should still not have taken 20 minutes. It may be that the problem has resolved itself, I will work on it tomorrow.

Importing with 6.2.1 took seconds, there has been no change other than the latest update. I will try a reset and ignoring the second copy tomorrow with some new images

Importing from the card into lightroom without the second copy took 4 minutes.

So that is pretty close to my 3:45 estimate. The next question being: If you make your second copy to a non-raid drive, what happens to the time?
