Lightroom: Import images using camera created folders in the target folder creation as part of Import dialog

When importing images from my Nikon D700 I would like to name the target folders the same as the source folders on my camera card as a selection on the Import window. I can do this by changing the Preferences to deselect "Ignore camera generated folders during import' but the feature would be much easier to use if I could set it during the Import dialog. Is this possible? If not, please consider this for a future release or update.

Good idea.

I'd like to see the folder name and number be available as tokens, usable in import folder naming and more importantly to me: file naming.

folder-number + image-number is forever unique for one camera. So, a simple and short filenaming scheme that ensures uniqueness is:

{camera-id}_{folder-number}{image-number}

Details:
---------

I used a pseudo version of this scheme for a while, substituting a job-number (shoot-name) for the folder-number, which works as long as you don't forget to change the job-number when the image number rolls over (blehk...).

Otherwise having a unique name means using "arbitrary" import sequence numbers and/or date-time..., and if you don't also include image-number then the connection to original filename is broken (making it harder to recover or reimport from card or whatever).

I like this idea for file naming as well. -- Michael
