Import pictures from another catalogue fails and process is inconvinient in general.

My current workflow:
On set using Canon DSLR and MacBook Pro.
In Studio Win7 machine
Both latest version of LR

when trying to import pictures from the LR catalogue on the MBP in most cases I get an unknown error when click on the import button after selected what to import.
In those cases the import catalogue doesn't show the file handling option "Copy new photos to a new location and import" but does show the target path (Copy to) option. Confusingly enough sometimes it works without problems.
All pictures I try to import are in the CR.2 format, no other format.
Lightroom is not running on the MBP when trying to import from the PC

On top of that I'm wondering why lightroom is creating a copy of the source path on the target machine despite the fact the hierachy is the same on both machines.
This is really enoying since one would need to manually move the pictures to the right folder afterwards.

As well Lightroom does not recognize pictures already imported via "import from another catalogue" if importing the same pictures from a memory card directly.

I assume my workflow is rather common that's why I'm wondering why this process is such a pain. With all your latest online services I would expect something more elegant and stable.
