Photoshop: Import Image Sequence options missing (Layer > Video Layers > New Video Layer from File...)

Hi,

I'm using Adobe Photoshop CC2018 (v19.1.3) on Mac OS 10.13.4 High Sierra.

When I try and import an image sequence into the Photoshop Timeline via

Layer > Video Layers > New Video Layer from File...

there is no option to import an image sequence.

I note the same problem exists in Adobe Photoshop 2017.1.1 on a Mac running Mac OS 10.11.6 El Capitan.

According to this Adobe Help file, the Image Sequence option should be available when importing images by this method.
https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/importing-video-files-image-sequences.html

I find that when I open a new file (File > Open...) the image sequence options are present, but this creates a new file rather than integrating a new image sequence with other items in the Photoshop timeline. (I can copy paste from one Photoshop file's timeline to another of course, but ideally would prefer not to have to keep doing this if possible.)

When I choose File > Place Embedded the image sequence options are present, although the imported image sequence is not placed on a video layer, just on a standard image layer.
(And this means there is no option to use Layer > Video Layers > Interpret Footage on the imported image sequence).

Has anyone else come across this? Am I missing something?

Thanks everyone in advance for any help.

Kind regards,

John

Hmm. It seems to work if I select the first image of an image sequence. There's just no UI (Image Sequence or Frame Rate dialog) using this method.

Hi Jeffrey,

Thanks for replying.

I tested just now and you're quite right, Photoshop imports an image sequence when the first file in the sequence is selected. I hadn't tested actually which I should have - I assumed because the 'Options' button wasn't there that Photoshop would only allow me to import one file.

Can I respectfully suggest please that it would be worth making the window you see when you choose
Layer > Video Layers > New Video Layer from File...

the same as the window you see when you choose
File > Open...

ie the 'Options' button should be available at lower left of the window so you can choose to import an image sequence or not.

As far as I can tell, right now, if you have a folder with an image sequence in it, and you only want to import one image from that sequence, the whole image sequence will be imported, regardless of whether this is the intention or not.

Right now I want to import an image sequence into a video layer so my current problem is solved. But another time I might only need to import a single image from an image sequence into a video layer.

I can complete a bug report if this is needed.

Thanks again.

Kind regards,

John
