I thought I had resolved this but alas not. I cannot LR Classic 7.4 to maintain its Folder Tree. So these are the steps. - On my HD I create a folder say ~/Pictures/MyPhotos and copy say 100 photos into it.

-In LR I create a Folder un Macintosh HD ~Pictures/Test

-I Synchronise the folder and it imports 100 photos.

-The Import finishes and it says that my folder has 0 photos in it.

-I look further at the Folder Tree and LR has created a Folder directly under Macintosh HD with my photos in it.

-If I select this Folder and go Show in finder it is in the place on my HD that I put it.

I cannot get LR to show it is the correct Folder Tree.

Any ideas anyone?

I have discovered one more thing. I recently changed computer and the Mac and User name are the same as my old computer, as is the photo library structure. However on my old Mac the LR ~Folder Tree started with my name 'Dave'. It has remained the same but LR seems to think that this is now a different Folder. When I select the folder and say Show parent Folder it is showing the right Folder name but where it really is, it seems to think it is a different parent to the actual... Hoipe that makes sense.

Sorry folks, I have fixed this. I went to my 'Dave' Folder - Show Parent Folder - Then Update Folder Location. Then selected right back to my new Mac HD/Users/.. and now all seems well.

Dave, I'm glad you got it fixed.  I guess I was confused as to why you needed to put them into a different folder if they're already on you HD in pictures/...
If you need them in a different folder why not just place them there initially?  I've never even thought to use LR to create or manage folders.  I use Finder to do that, place my files where I want them, and import them into LR from there.  But, to each his own!  :-)

Like you I use Finder to manage folders but LR was not seeing a new folder as being in the same place as Finder was, very hard to explain in words but all well now, thanks.
