Photoshop: Images won't paste from clipboard to PS CS5 - is this a bug?

Hi

If I copy an image from a browser or anywhere on my machine, it won't paste into CS5. Sometimes it does to start off with, but then it won't anymore.

If I paste the image into MS Paint, it appears, but not in CS5.

Anyone figured out a workaround for the glitch?

I tried purging the clipboard, but it didn't fix the problem.

Cheers

We've seen this problem with some older versions of some third party plugins. Updating the plugins (or disabling them) allowed the clipboard to work correctly.

I don't think I have any plugins in Photoshop. Where would I look to find out?

Cheers

Did you install any third party plugins? They would normally be in the Plug-Ins folder, or pointed to by the optional plugins path in preferences.

I havn't installed any, but there are a whole bunch in the plugins folder. Not sure if they came installed with CS5, or if they are 3rd party.

I have the same problem.

most people try to paste using ctrl-V, into a newly started PS yes? this doesn't work. in windows when you do a alt-printscrn to capture a window and then you start photoshop, it ignores the clipboard, because Edit->Paste (practically all of Edit) is grayed. I am using 32-bit ps cs5 extended. it's almost like PS has its OWN clipboard aside from the windows clipboard... there needs to be some compatibility there. PS 12.0.4 x32

and when I capture the screen again when ps is already started, it ignores the clipboard and edit menu is still grayed out.

if there is something in the clipboard, I should be able to paste as a new image. I consider this to be a BASIC OPERATION for any paint program. even xp's mspaint does this. I should also be able to paste as a selection if it is a good photo program...

Do you have any third party plugins installed? Have you tried disabling them?

yes, I have plugins installed. I moved the plugins out of the program files-adobe-ps-plugins-filters directory (some programs wish to install their filters in the adobe filter directory under program files\adobe...) into a separate dir and disabled the filters, but this had no effect.

like the other folks said, they don't have plugins installed and they have the same problem. the fix-suggestion is irrelevant because it ignores proper test results from multiple people.

I have cs5. is this fixed in 5.5? is that why I am not seeing the problem fixed? what exactly are the "conditions of success"?

Every time we look into reproduceable cases of clipboard problems, the cause is always a bug in a third party plugin, or an external application. Adobe can do nothing to fix those.

Windows XP may still have bugs in the OS clipboard support, but MS claims to have fixed those in Vista.

On OS X, copying a PNG with transparency from Chrome or Safari to Preview, Fireworks or Illustrator works. In Photoshop, the pasted PNG renders white wherever there is transparency.

This is on OS X 10.8.2 using Photoshop 13.0.1 x64

I tried to copy several movie posters and it works for a while and then it just stops 'pasting'. I have to restart Photoshop to get it to start work again.

The copy function doesn't copy to the clipboard because the paste function is grayed out or unavailable!!!!

Happened here too. I think this is linked to the gigantic number of things i already copied to my clipboard. Happens a lot, because i'm a copying maniac. On older versions of Photoshop (7 and so), if you put a lot of stuff into ctrl+c, it would crash. Maybe this is the Adobe's improvement to no crashings. :p
