Lightroom: Images are not all individually selectable during import

Hi,
I'm having some problems importing images from my camera (from an SD card). Where a checkbox is displayed on the top left of each image, I find I can only select some of the images to be imported but not others (seemingly at random). If I "check all" images for import they are all imported successfully, although often that is not what I want to do.

The images concerned are not displayed as dimmed, have not previously been imported to Lightroom and have unique file names on the disc. I was able to reproduce the problem with 10 images on a newly formatted card. Ejecting and re-inserting the card does not help.

Also, it bothers me that images on the card which I previously imported to LR and subsequently deleted show up as candidates for import when I insert the card at a later time. I have selected the option to avoid importing duplicates, but this seems not to apply to duplicates of images which have been deleted. For this reason I would like to import a subset of the available images on each import (i.e. only the new images), but as explained above this is not possible if some of the new images are strangely unselectable.

I am using LR for a 30 day trial period and I don't think I'll be able to purchase the product (which I like very much for the capabilities available after import) if this problem continues.

Thanks, David

Just did a quick test with a big number of files.

I have noticed that sometimes the checkbox would not get ticked at first attempt, but a second click will make it work. This suggests that it is not a flat out bug but rather a performance limitation, since Lightroom is doing stuff in the background (extracting previews, metadata etc.).

Are you sure it is not the same case for you?

Hi Dorin, thanks for the quick reply. When I tried the import yesterday I left LR alone for half a minute - in case it were a performance limitation - but those same files remained unselectable. I haven't noticed the application otherwise being sluggish.

That said, I just tried this again following a reboot and the problem did not reoccur.

Would you have any tips on how to configure the import so as not to check any previously imported-then-deleted photos?

This is not possible. Since you have deleted the photos - they don't exist in the catalog. And if they don't exist, there may not be duplicates of them. Lightroom does not store any kind of information about deleted photos.

I've had Lightroom from the day it came out, and this still hasn't been fixed!

It is truly infuriating.
