Lightroom Classic: Images not displayed after delete of photo

Appears similar to a problem "solved" years ago.  Most times, but not always after deleting an image (just from catalog or from disk) the image viewing area will be black.  If "Crop" is selected the image area works normally but once crop mode is exited central viewing area returns to black.  Exiting Lightroom then restarting Lightroom fixes the problem (until another image is deleted).  Occurs if either backspace or delete keys are used to trigger the delete.  Occurs about 100% of the time when working with the first few images on the "filmstrip".  Sometimes the problem will not occur when working with the last few images on the "filmstrip".  This has occured with previous windows and Radeon versions within the last 6 months
Lightroom classic, 8.0 release, 11.0 camera raw. Build 1193777  AMD Radeon graphics R7 200, Software ver 17.12.  Windows 10 Insider Preview Build

If you disable GPU in Preferences>Performance, does the issue still happen?
