I'm looking to make some text rotate 360 degrees but i keep having the same problem - the text rotates off screen! When i'm in 3D mode i created a video timeline, click the drop down 3D meshes, hit the timer, move the slider along and then rotate once (i'm following YouTube instructions). However after i've rotated, the text not only rotates, it moves itself off screen to the left (i can still see it, just). Does anyone know why this would be happening? I've search online and here to find a solution but no far nothing (apologies if it's been answered, i've not seen anything). I'm using Photoshop CC 2014. Many thanks.

Howdy Lindsay,

I'm not a guru on 3D, but just a thought.  Have you checked to make sure that the axis of rotation for you text is direction beneath it?  If not, then it would be quite reasonable for the text to rotate and (effectively) swing off the canvas in the process.

Hope that helps,
David

Hi David,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, i'm not a 3D guru either (or a photoshop gura to be honest...learning as i go!). As far as the axis of rotation for the text etc, i don't think there is a problem. I have taken some screenshots of a 'before and after' scenario, i don't know whether this could give you any more information to help. The first picture below shows everything before i rotate the 'test' text. The second image shows the text now rotated, but moved off to the left hand side of the white page (you can just see it!). Perhaps there's something obvious i'm missing that's clear from these screen shots. If there is, do let me know! Hopefully there is and it's just a quick fix - otherwise i'm not sure what to do.

Many thanks,
Lindsay

Lindsay. Here's a link to my psd file shown above. Maybe you can compare it to yours to help figure out why!https://1drv.ms/u/s!AjZLOy6GbYksga08E1RLeBMDg0Q3HA

Hey Lindsay, are you working now or do you still need help?  I can pass your bug to someone far more familiar with 3D to help you.

Just let me know,
Thanks,
David

Hi John, thanks for your replies and effort! Yes, you're right in setting out the stages of what is going wrong. I tried using your file but there still seems to be an issue. For example - if i open the psd, go into timeline, move the slider, and then hit the little timer button to start 'recording', the text then spins off the page. I've included some photos below. The first is before i click the 'timer', the second is after:

Not sure if i'm doing something obviously wrong here, but let me know if you see anything! Seems to all be a bit bizarre.

Thanks again.

Hi David,

Unfortunately i'm still having problems! You can see above in my response to John that his file did something odd (unless i'm still making a major error somewhere) when i tried to use the timer and to rotate. Any more help would be really appreciated!

Many thanks,
Lindsay

It's acting like the deformation setting is changed, only according to your screen cap, it's not. put the play head back at zero and then hit "reset deformation" and try it. Some thing is skewing the settings. Also make it run shorter by dragging the right bracket, "]," closer to the left, just for testing.

Any chance you can make the timeline window larger so we can see the entire list as I can't see the key. Also how are you rotating the object?
