For some reason my computer changed the external hard drive from E: to F:. It took some time to import all the files again but all the editing data is lost. How can I recover that data.

This article may be of help:

Recovering data will depend upon your backups. Do you have a recent backup?
When you 'reimported' the files, that is what caused the editing data loss. Lightroom never wants files to be reimported. When a file is imported over the top of itself in the Lightroom catalog, it resets all the editing. It would have been quicker and safer to repoint your files to the new location or change the location's drive letter as outlined in the link above.

Now: To recover your edit data, you will need find your most recent backup and work to restore it from the backup.
