I've just added around 6000+ from a single folder and surprisingly Carousel responded by saying that 300 odd photos were skipped as they were duplicates. So presumably within the list of photos it has identified duplicates which is very likely within this set.

It would be great however to be able to jump from this message to a list of photos that have been excluded, either by expanding the confirmation message to show a list or by providing a link to a log file in order. This would give me the ability to confirm they are in fact duplicates.

Taking advantage of Mac OSX's labelling feature would be great (i.e. label all photos that have been skipped) but I would imagine this might not be suitable in all situations...

Just because an image has the same name as another (e.g. IMG_461) will Revel identify as a duplicate and skip the upload? My photos uploaded span a number of years and with different cameras, and I've learned that the same file name has been assigned to different images.

Hello Mark,
Revel filters out duplicates based on file byte comparisons (aka. hashing or checksumming). Revel will not filter images that are edited copies of originals.

Revel doesn't look at file names when determining whether images are duplicates, but considers the binary contents of the files. If the file contents are exactly the same, then Revel flags them as duplicates regardless of filename and other properties.
When there are two photos with the same pixel data--but one has some metadata added, or is of a different file format, then images are not considered as being duplicates.
Albums should transfer, though the organizational structure will flatten (Revel doesn't current supported nested albums, aka subfolders)
Hope this answers your question
Thanks
Scott

Scott, thank you for your reply. I'm new to Revel and got started a week ago. I'm now uploading during the 30 day unlimited upload window, but all of a sudden, after a few thousand uploads, anything I'm uploading goes through the process and at conclusion I receive a dialog box message that every photo I attempted to upload was skipped. I've tried to upload single photo to larger batches with same result. These are not duplicates (nor did the dialog box say they were duplicates, rather that they were just skipped). Any idea why not able to upload? Thank you.

Mark,
I will look into this further for you as I will get back to you soon on this. How are you uploading the images? Are you using the Mac app, Elements 11, or the web browser version? If you are not using the adoberevel.com you might test to see if you can the images thru the browser. Were these images able to upload at all? I am curious to see if they will upload thru the browser.
Thanks
Scott

Hi Scott, I think I figured out what happened. For some reason I had been logged out mid-stream on an upload...so when I closed out the browser (adobe revel website) and logged back in, then I was able to upload again. I'm surprised that the website appeared to go through the whole process of upload (long time and the progress bar continued to advance) to arrive at conclusion and not import due to being logged out. Thank you.

Hey Mark,
Its good to hear that you are able to upload. That is interesting that was the cause. I have watched the syncing happen fairly fast at times when I test uploading from a browser and watching the files appear in the mac app and at times it has been slow. I will keep that in mind and thanks for the update.
