ICC print profiles behaving strangely after upgrade to PS 2017.1.1

I had my PS color managment on Epson Surecolor P8000 dailed in pretty well, but after installing 2017.1.1 it has gone south and resisted all attempts to troubleshoot it.

I'm working on Windows 10, using mostly Epson papers and profiles, calibrating everything with Spyder 5 Elite. Occasionally making new profiles with Spyder that have been working well. PS managing colors. All images in Prophoto RGB space. Great prints, very satisfied.

After upgrade, however, having big gamut problems. (see settings screengrabs attached) Overall saturation is down, reds and intense yellows are virtually absent. Compare the preview in the Settings 1 and Settings 2 files attached, with "match prints" off and on respectively. Gamut warning preview confirms what I'm seeing in prints -- flat, reds and yellows missing. Rather the same as when you accidentally post a large-gamut image on the web. All the printer diagnostics check out fine

But here's the kicker -- I turn off PS color managment and turn on printer color management, and the problem goes away. Prints are perfect. I interpret this as some kind of profile mismatch or mismanagement is PS, but after lots of trial and error I cannot figure out what's going on. Help!
