Elements not always seeing file thumbnails in MacOS 10.9 Finder

I have been running Elements 6 on Snow Leopard for 6 years without problem. I upgraded to Mavericks OS and although PSE6 works ok, when I save the file there is about 30percent chance that there will be no thumbnail for the file, just a generic icon. I thought this might be resolved if I used PSE12 but it is just the same. If I drag the file to the desktop the thumbnail appears but if I drag it back it disappears. Other image editors (GIMP, Graphic Converter) have no problem. Any suggestions as to why this might be happening? I have two new iMac 27 running Mavericks and the problem is the same in both.

You're running into MacOS bugs with thumbnails, not a problem with the application.

MacOS has several known bugs that cause it to fail to read or draw thumbnails on image files.

If that is so why do you think it only happens to files that have been manipulated in PSE.? Files changed in GIMP or Graphicconverter return thumbnails. It rather sounds like an interaction between PSE and Mac OS. Any suggestions about what I can do?

We're not sure of the exact nature of the MacOS bugs, since we do not have access to the MacOS source code. We know that they have problems with resource fork thumbnails (and asked us to stop using them), and sometimes stumble over metadata in the files (and that apparently also stops them from extracting the thumbnail), in some cases they appear to have the thumbnails but cannot draw them in some folders (but the same file will work in other folders).
