Lightroom CC 2015.9: Switching to develop module makes app unresponsive

I updated to Lightroom CC 2015.9 and now I have problems. When I select an image in the library and then click the develop tab, the app becomes unresponsive. Trying to de-select the GPU support has the same effect. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app and updated to the latest AMD driver for my A8 APU. When unresponsive, the app is using around 40% CPU and the memory usage is stable.

First troubleshooting step is to reset your preference file as it survives an uninstall/reinstall.

1. Close Lightroom
2. Hold down [Alt/Opt]+[Shift] while relaunching Lightroom.
3. Overwrite the preferences when prompted.
4. Restart your computer.

Does it work now?

Hi Rikk,

I cleared the preferences as you suggested. It allowed me to select an image from the library and put it into the development area. I then selected another image from the thumbnails at the bottom and the problem was evident again, i.e. not responding.

Try following the Manual Disabling of the Graphics Processor in this Help Document: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/lightroom-gpu-faq.html
That should isolate the GPU as a potential cause.

Update to previous entry: I can now deselect the GPU in the performance tab and I can now select images without problem. It suggests the AMD GPU isn't being handled correctly when images are selected.

I would recommend checking AMD for drive updates from time to time in the event they release a driver that works better with Lightroom.

Glad you are working again!

Hi Rikk,

I updated the driver only recently after I started having this problem. The lack of GPU acceleration is not slowing things down much at all. I think I can live with this until a fix becomes available.
