When I view all photos on the Desktop Mac, or iOS I’m seeing two images of any photo taken with or saved through screen capture, the iPhone or iPad. This is an image screen captured on the Mac and stored in the Photo album.I now see two of these images on any device I use.

Greetings rachalmers,

I haven't seen that before.  If you put your device in Info mode instead of Edit (tap the (i) at the bottom right of your interface when you are looking at a single image.

What is the file name?
Then move to its duplicate. What is it's file name?

Could you type the filenames including the extensions in your reply?

Sorry, I could have done but I've been through this afternoon and deleted the duplicates.
Next time it happens I'll note it, and get back to you. It was happening again the other day as well but I just put it down to something I was doing wrong.
I did mention it in response to another person's post who had been having the same problem. Can't find it now.

Do you have iCloud set to automatically sync images between your devices?
Also do you have auto-import to Lightroom enabled on both devices?

It sounds like you may be syncing images outside of Lightroom and both devices are set to autoimport.

**** SOLVED ****

Hi there again. This seems to be a one-device problem. So far.
This morning while out walking the dogs I took a photo on my iPhone. It's the only photo taken today so far on anything.
When I come back in, no double image in LR Desktop, nor anywhere else yet.
Next, I'll try the iPad. So I take a picture of the dogs on the iPad, and come back up to the Desktop - and there is the dog photo, but NOW I have two images of the original outside shot.

IMG_7658.JPG in both cases. EXCEPT... one image has © Robert Chalmers in the metadata field.

Now I remember turning that option on somewhere, to put a copyright notice in the metadata on the iOS devices - iPhone. But can't remember what or where the relevant app is.

So far there is still only one image of the dog - taken on the iPad. Every device is now showing duplicates of the outside shot, one with the © Robert Chalmers notice.

On all devices, in Photos, there is only one image of each showing up. No duplicates. Only in LR.

OK. I may have found the gremlin.
In LR. on both the iPhone and the iPad. Turn off import.
Settings -> Import -> Photos (off) & Videos (off) -
On both devices, they were set to on.

and while I'm at it. On the Desktop, -> Preferences - Store Smart Previews Locally (off)

Can I suggest that those on/off switches have a green/red background? instead of just grey... or any 50 shades thereof.

OK. Now, on a test, I can take a photo on the iPhone and the iPad, and it doesn't get imported into LR, although of course it gets put into all occurrences of Photos -> Camera Roll because it's on iCloud.
The only way I can get it into LR now is to go to the Desktop and use the (+) option, go to Photos and Import it from the Camera Roll.
Which is a good thing? I think. Well it is really, because I can now control just what I take on my iPhone etc and if it goes into LR or not. I mean, how many dog photos do I want in LR?

This leads to one final experiment. I had Import from Camera Roll (on) in LR on both iPhone and iPad. What happens if I only have one of them turned on. Say - the iPad. Let's see.

Ok, new dog photo on iPhone. Import from Camera Roll (on) on iPad LR.
So far - new dog photo appears on all devices and desktop Photos Camera Roll albums.
and presto bumpo ... new dog photo appears in LR on iPad after a small delay... and iPhone, and now Desktop - after a small delay.

So new rule. If I don't want ANY images from the iPhone or iPad Camera Roll (Photos) to appear in my LR display, then turn off both devices' -> Import options. If I do want them - turn on only 1 (one) device to import from Camera Roll. If both are on - you get two images.

If I'd rather Import them Manually - turn of import on both devices and import manually from Camera Roll on the Desktop.
But. Don't Import manually from the Camera Rool if you have one of the devices turned on. You will get double images.

Now, I'll give it 10 minutes and make sure nothing sneaks past on a refresh.

OK. Looking good. I think I found it. woo hoo.

ok, happy snaps on the iPhone and no double images.

It's a frequent problem when you have multiple iOS devices, each having LRCC for iOS installed and with "auto add" enabled in preferences, and you also use iCloud syncing for photos.

My personal preference is to keep "auto add" enabled, and have iCloud for photos disabled, thus such duplication is avoided (though in fact I use the LRCC camera for 99% of my iPhone pictures, thereby avoiding the Camera Roll completely).

I agree with the last comment.   Since LR CC is going to be your central repository of pictures and performing the sync for you, disable iCloud photos on all your devices.

Then I set auto-add photos/videos on all my devices in LR.   When I want my photos to sync after taking some pictures, I just have to open LR on all my devices and they will not get duplicates.     It's redundant to have iCloud sync, because iCloud will also try to upload the originals while LR is doing the same, wasted bandwidth.

I use my iPad to import my raw files from my SD card, so once the import is done, I simply open LR CC and let the photos show up in my inbox album (set with auto-add on).   Once they show there, they can be deleted from the camera roll and iCloud photos did not waste time trying to sync the originals back (which LR will be doing for you).

I hope that helps.  It would be great if this recommendation would be in the FAQs because at first I was using iCloud photos and LR together and didn't work well and is not efficient.

Interesting variations. I guess it comes down to what you need - what suits you best. I use both the iPhone and my Panasonic camera for photos. I also keep a lot of Stock images and artwork. Mostly my "good" photography is done with the Panasonic, and "happy snaps" with the iPhone.
So I leave the iCloud Camera Roll on, and sync images to that so I can access them from the Mac/iPad/iPhone.
In LRCC I have auto add from Camera Roll turned off in all devices. Including the Desktop.
When I Import photographs from the Panasonic camera, I pull them in direct from the SDCard or micro cable. Selecting which photographs I want. That puts them into Lightroom, and they sync to the Lightroom Cloud and thence to all other devices in LRCC only.
I also store them in Camera Uploads in Dropbox. A safety precaution. Nothing more.
If there are photographs I want from the iPhone - that is, now in  the ICloud Camera Roll, I can import them into LRCC via the Import sequence, selecting only those images that I want.
I can import them into any device of course, including LRCCWeb, but prefer to do all that sort of work on the Desktop. Just keeps me from becoming too haphazard.
Took me ages to figure out the dual photo problem, but for now, I think I have a working paradigm.
One side benefit is that I have multiple backups.
Dropbox, LRCC+local storage for Camera work.
iCloud, LRCC+local storage for selected images from iOS devices.
