I downloaded a trial version of Premiere Elements and it does not recognize my Sony HDR-FX1000. Does that mean I cannot use this software?

This is very frustrating. I got a new computer and need to edit my videos. I had Final Cut Express on my last computer, but that has been discontinued and I don't want to spend $300 for the Pro version. I thought I'd try Premiere Elements, but it does not seem to recognize my video camera. This is very frustrating!

Premiere Elements 13 does not support HDV capture through Firewire. You can use Premiere Elements 12 for this purpose.

It is so disappointing that Premiere Elements 13 does not support Firewire. What about all those people out there (like myself) that have a lot of miniDV tapes to use. I guess use another video editor.
