What folder are you trying to import to?
Any chance it has restricted permissions/is read-only?
Are all imports failing or just these files?
A screenshot of your import settings might help too.

Seems it is now importing if I ADD to my Catalog . . not sure why the other options like Copy or Dng wont work, but happy I can work on them now. Sorry to have troubled you, and thanks for your help.

regards, David

"Add" means you're leaving the files where they're currently at and just adding their info to Lr.

"Copy" means you're copying the actual file from a source location to a destination location.  If you can't write to the destination, the copy will fail.
If your source and destination are the same, the copy will fail.
and so on...

If Add works, you've probably got something set wrong in your import dialog for the others.  Odds are we could identify the problem with a screenshot of the import dialog.  Otherwise, we're flying blind.

In other words, David, there's the potential for a disaster here. If you "ADD" your images from the plugged-in memory card, then erase the memory card, your photos will be gone for good.

Just saying :)
