Lightroom Classic: I can no longer Import from another Catalog

For years I have created a new catalog on portable drives when traveling and then imported those catalogs upon return. Now LR just stalls out during the import.  The dialog box comes up OK and I am able to start the process but it just stalls out after a bit and nothing happens.  Sometimes it imports some of the images and sometimes it does not, but it NEVER imports the whole catalog anymore.  This started with 8.2.  LR Classic Mac OS X 10.13.6 currently LR 8.3.1

Hi Lewis, Thanks for your time. I have couple of questions that would help in further investigation of this issue:
1) Is it happening just for the catalogs present in portable drive?
2) Do you face it consistently or it is intermittent?
3) Does it happen with only one one catalog? if yes, it will be helpful if you can share the catalog
4) What is type of your portable device?
5) Are you able to import photos from device using "Apple Photos"?

Thanks,
Ruby

I nailed it down and it turns out it was a hard drive issue that was preventing the writing of the new images into the catalog.  It was NOT a Lightroom issue afterall.

Thanks for your time,

Lewis
