How to edit the original topic that you created?

I have started a couple of topics recently. Now after several comments I would like to refine and clarify my original request. I can easily edit any comments but I do not see any way to edit the content or title of the original submission.

As an admin, I can edit the title only. Unfortunately, editing the topics or replys after a comment is made is a design decision of this platform (explanation here):

Jeffery thanks for the link to the additional information. I understand the rational even if I don't believe it is really necessary. Notifying all participants of any changes and providing an an audit trail of what changed really should be sufficient. Unfortunately that doesn't sound like that will happen.

So this still leaves me with a conundrum. As creator or owner of the topic I want to be able to refine my initial suggestion at the top level not buried down in the trail of comments.

Creating yet another new topic, unrelated to the first is, I believe, just going to be confusing.

So how do you suggest ending one conversation and beginning a new one based on the old one?
