Photoshop CS6: Erodible Brush: Custom Shape.

I would appreciate instruction on how to create a custom shape for the Erodible Brush. I can find no information on this anywhere! The feature is there, but if Custom is selected for the shape and the brush is used, it just goes back to the previously selected shape, for example Round.
Many thanks!

The Custom item in the popup is to show you that a brush tip is saved with the tip worn down to a specific shape. For example take a erodible flat tip shape and wear it down on opposite sides so that you have a chiseled point on the end. When you save a new preset, the popup for the tip used in that preset will show that it has a custom shape. An example of this can be seen in the Mixer Brush tool preset “Pencil –Chisel Tip Hard Opaque” that is in the default set.
