I love the map feature of Lightroom 5.

How do I select multiple images at once? From many other UX, I expected it would be by defining a box (eg., shift-drag), but all I can find is alt-drag to zoom (and there seems to be a limit to how much that will zoom something, meaning I can't use that to isolate a set of images and then use ctrl-A).

Ctrl-clicking a bunch of images works to accumulate a set of selected images, which is good in some situations but is unnecessarily tedious if all the images are neighbours in an area, as is often the case of interest.

If this can't be done, it'd be a good feature request.

(In effect, this allows the map to be used as a method of 'sorting by location', which is not supported by the Library window.)
