I want to save the image of a soccer ball only without background so i can insert into powerpoint presentation and see the page behind it without obscuring the design so i either want to crop the shape of the ball or else have everything beside the ball transprent

JPEG doesn't support transparency. You would need to save as PNG.

Do you know how to remove the white background from your image?

Powerpoint page save as JPEG.
Use quick section tool in PS to remove ball from background, (lookup Refine Edge in photoshop manual), please ball picture over Powerpoint page background. To save as a JPeg in PS, use save for web, pick Jpeg. This will save as a Jpeg file. There are quite a lot of steps to follow to refine edge, best if you look up and follow step by step.
