PHOTOSHOP: How do I save files greater than 2 gig?

I have chopped and cut and lassoed many photos to make one big collage. It has taken me all day to get this stage and now late at night it wont let me save it. Says the file is too big.
Don't know how but surely a trigger to warn people would be handy before we get to the last save. Why wait until you think you have it right to save and now have to change it. Do I now have to delete photos that I wanted in the collage. Extremely frustrating for sure.

Many file formats can't go over 2 Gig.
But PSB files can.

And Photoshop does preflight the save to see if it will go over 2 Gig, but you can't actually know the final file size without saving the file and compressing the data -- so sometimes it only knows that it will go over after completing part of the save.
