I can't figure out how to render an object in Photoshop 3D and that object has an alpha channel for easy compositing. This is standard in every 3D app I ever used. What am I missing? Once I render how do I export that to a png or psd with alpha?

They already render with transparency (which you seem to have confused with alpha channels).

Render, Save as PNG or any other format that supports transparency.
