PDD is an old (really old) PhotoDeluxe file, I believe.

And where are you getting the message about Photoshop 3?

Also, do you mean Photoshop 10, or Elements 10?

Ya, I've been around awhile, and once had photoshop 3. I'm trying to use Elenents 10 to open the file at the present time. I've also tried a number of other free programs, and photoshop broderbund programs. I get the message whenever I try to open the picture, in the area where the picture should be, same message no matter what program I try to open it with.

Huh? What does Broderbund (a different software publisher) have to do with it?

So you saved the file without a composite image - and you need a program that will open it with layers because it has no composite image. Is that what the message says?
It should open in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, assuming the file isn't damaged.
