I have to make a birthday card for my Digital Arts in school and this is what it's telling me to do. In this assignment, you will use the basic tools and features within Photoshop Express to create a postcard or birthday card. You can use a sample photo provided on the Photoshop Express site or you can upload your own picture.

Assignment Guidelines:

You will need to become familiar with the basic tools of Photoshop Express. Review the tutorials on the site or just experiment to learn how to use the various tools within Photoshop Express. Once you are comfortable with the application, use your creativity to create a birthday card or postcard. You will need to include the
following items on your photo.
Use and apply at least three techniques using the Photoshop Express tools. You can choose the tools that you want to use.
Use the text tool to type your birthday card or postcard message.

I'm not sure your class is pointing you to the right tools for this assignment. Photoshop Express is a web based app for editing you images uploaded to your Photoshop.com account. It's an extension of phone based Photoshop Express Mobile. While it has a fair number of tools, it really isn't the right application to create birthday cards.

Instead, you should be using Photoshop Elements, which has a wizard to create a birthday card for you, and very powerful tools to create a birthday card from scratch.

Here is a video tutorial for creating birthday cards in Elements:
