in LR, when you click on import and the import dialogue opens on the right hand side of the screen, click on "don't import suspected duplicates"

related to this is the following question, I am now importing 4 TB of image files from a Thunderbolt HD, Then I have a second similar HD with new /different files but some/many? suspected duplicate files and folders. Your advice please as to how to do this avoiding duplicates, and problems?

Short story is: LR doesn't care how many pixs have the same name as long as they aren't in the same folder. I'm not sure if LR can detect that the same picture, with the same name in 2 different folders on 2 different HD's are the same, but I am willing to bet that it can.

Why not try it and find out.
1-copy a folder with a few pictures from one HD to the other.
2-creat a new CATALOG in LR (name it DUPE for example.
3-import the pictures that you just copied from the first HD into LR
MAKE SURE TO CHECK THE DO NOT IMPORT SUSPECTED DUPLICATES IN THE IMPORT DIALOGUE BOX
4-now try and import the pictures from the second HD
5-report back what happened-whether it imported both
