How to convert a catalog while keeping the old version?

I have been using PE14 and have just bought PE15.
I want to convert my PE14 catalog to work with PE15, but I want to keep the PE14 catalog so that I can return to using PE14 if I choose to.
What is the correct procedure for doing that?
I am not clear about what PE is doing when I convert a catalog from a previous version.
How can I make sure that it doesn't over-write the previous catalog?
I keep my catalog in a specially created folder, not in the default place.

Converting a catalog means creating a new one from the data of the older one.
The new catalog gets the same name as the old one, the old one is renamed with a -1 suffix, and is automatically connected to PSE14. No risk of overwriting, each version uses its own catalog.
You can keep your catalog in 'custom' location, no problem.
When you convert the PSE14 catalog, the new PSE15 one is created in the default location, but you can move it from the Explorer/Finder where you want; its contents are still valid.

However, remember that what you do in a catalog is ignored by the other; that is true even if they are in the same version format.

Thanks Michel. That's a great help.
Please can you tell me where the default location is?
I am running windows 10.

When the organizer creates a catalog after conversion, it's always in default location. Depending on your OS version, you can locate the catalog by using the menu Help>> System Info.
For me, it's:
Catalog Location: C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs\Cat V15HP 02 17\

That location is hidden by default in Windows, you may have to allow the Explorer to display hidden files and folders.

Thanks Michel. I have tried to do the conversion but I am getting "Catalog conversion failed". I have repaired the Vn 14 catalog which had no errors, but still the conversion fails. I checked the suggestions in the recommended article "Catalog Conversion Errors" but they do not apply in my case. They are for much earlier versions of PSE. So I'm really stuck now. My Vn14 catalog works OK with Vn 14 software, and I have backup copies of that catalog. But I'm not able to use the VN15 at all. Is there a way to get tech support from Adobe on this?
