How much SSD Storage is ideal for Lightroom CC (Desktop) and/or Lightroom Classic CC??

I’m buying a new computer, and I’m really struggling whether to dish out $400 more for a 1TB SSD (instead of just 512). For context, I’m buying a 13” MacBook Pro (8th generation quad core intel i7 processor, 16GB 2133MHz LPDDR3 RAM). At the moment, I’m using about 220 GB on my old Mac. 30 of that is my LRCC library, 25 is my LR Classic Catalog. At the moment, that leaves a healthy half the drive open. Original images are stored on an external SSD. The question becomes, how tight can I get before it starts to impact cache performance? What should I have free for Lightroom CC and Classic to operate most efficiently?

I installed a 1 TB EVO 860 in my 5 year old Lenovo x230 it came with the intel i7 and 8Gb of ram.
It’s like having a brand new machine. Sooo fast!

Unfortunately the new MacBooks have the SSDs soldered onto the motherboard, so upgrades will not be a thing of the past. But these MacBooks come with fast SSDs: 3.2 GB/s, about 6 times faster than the EVO 860s. Still the main question I’m asking myself at this point is about capacity. I keep waffling on this one.

Wow that’s fast! Jealous.
This is just my option it depends on your budget.
If I was replacing the machine and planned on keeping for a 5 year life cycle, and the drive is half full now -then 1TB would be the way to go.

I would go for the 1TB, it makes you more future proof! I have a 2 TB fusion Drive myself on my iMac. The real issue with running Lightroom is the RAM memory. My current 16 GB is not enough, I run Memory Clean 4 times a day! Next iMac will have 64 GB RAM.

You'll want to ensure enough space for your catalog and library previews, plus 5-10 GB for the Adobe Camera Raw cache. For a non-4K display, a rough rule of thumb is 1.25 MB for each cataloged photo.   So if your catalog has 25K photos, make sure you have at least 41 GB (25,000 * 1.25 + 10,000).  If you have a 4K display, or you're creating 1:1 previews or smart previews for every cataloged photo, you'll need significantly more space.
