Did you use the worlflow in this help file?
http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elem...
(see the last section for Macs)

What happened exactly when you tried?
If you used an external drive, are you sure it's working for Macs as well as PCs?

I am not sure ... the drive is the one i use for normal backups from my windows machine. i just reconnect to apple.
I then go to the apple and elements where i go to recover backup. it cannot find any files on the backup drive.

Can you see the backup folder in the external drive? It's a folder containing a 'backup.tly' file.

OK .. on my large drive 1TB, where I backed up the catalogue from my windows machine ... after the backup I can see all the files and the backup.tly file. When I then connect to the Apple it cannot see the file. I have a smaller drive ... 250 gb, that is not large enough for my bigger catalogues. I used it to backup from my windows machine the smaller catalogue's. When this was connected to the apple I could see the files and the back.up file and was actually able to backup the catalogue.

Some suggested there was a format on the drives that had to be used so that both windows and apple would read. Suggested I reformat the 1 TB machine .... so ... first is the reformat correct as suggested, if yes, what is the format that should be used?
